Asuka Unlikely to Return Before Year-End – WWE will be without one of its top stars, Asuka, for an extended period due to a knee injury that required surgery. Concerns about her condition began in March when fans noticed her limping during the closing moments of a SmackDown episode. At that time, she had been teaming with Damage CTRL’s IYO SKY and Kairi Sane in matches against Bianca Belair, Naomi, and Zelina Vega at WWE house shows.
These concerns were further fueled when Asuka appeared to sustain a leg injury during a main event segment where Damage CTRL beat down Bayley. Despite her apparent injury, Asuka continued to wrestle, including a match at Backlash France in April, where she and her partner lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill.
Eventually, Asuka announced she was taking a break to address her knee issue, leading to surgery and subsequent rehabilitation. She has shared her recovery journey through vlogs on her YouTube channel, providing fans with updates on her progress.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Asuka is not expected to return to the ring by the end of the year. He noted in a Q&A session that, while her exact surgery details were not disclosed, WWE insiders have indicated her recovery will keep her out of action for the remainder of 2024. However, he also mentioned that in the unpredictable world of professional wrestling, anything can happen regarding her return.
