Countdown News and Notes

Byron Saxton interviews Bianca Belair

Byron Saxton interviewed Bianca Belair about her upcoming Triple Threat Match. When asked about the dynamic of being in a Triple Threat, Bianca said she’s used to having to work harder for what she’s earned. She noted her Elimination Chamber victory and the emotional toll of watching two of her closest friends face off. While she wishes the match were one-on-one, Bianca said she has to accept the circumstances and be confident in her ability to win.

When asked about her comments regarding Rhea Ripley, Bianca said she stands by them. She respects Rhea and still considers her a friend. Ideally, she would’ve preferred to face Rhea, but Rhea lost to IYO SKY. In Bianca’s view, the match should have been one-on-one, but now it’s a Triple Threat and she’s focused on the challenge ahead.

Saxton brought up IYO cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Bianca after she had just won the title. Bianca said she doesn’t feel any resentment. Instead, she blames herself for the loss, admitting she should have seen the cash-in coming.

When asked about her favorite WrestleMania entrance gear, Bianca mentioned WrestleMania 38 as a standout, saying she experimented with something new and had help from her family in designing the look.

To wrap things up, Saxton asked how she plans to stay undefeated at WrestleMania. Bianca said she’ll rely on all of her “EST” qualities and plans to prove she’s not someone to be taken lightly.

Peter Rosenberg Interviews Paul “Triple H” Levesque

Peter Rosenberg interviewed Paul “Triple H” Levesque and began by asking about his experience during Elimination Chamber.

Paul responded that it’s challenging to be in multiple roles at once. He has to communicate that there’s more to come and that he’s in charge, all while trying to view the product through a fan’s lens and send the right signals to production. He said it’s important to stay committed to your vision even when others are pushing for changes.

Peter then asked where he draws the line in storytelling.

Paul explained that once something happens, it’s easier to explain it. Fans will understand without needing context, but non-fans likely won’t get it, no matter how much is said.

Peter brought up whether he misses the days when the business was more protected.

Paul said there’s also a strong appeal in revealing how things come together. Many don’t realize the effort involved, and he enjoys showing the behind-the-scenes process.

Next, Peter asked what it takes for a main event to become a classic.

Paul said it needs to create powerful emotional moments that fans never expected. Those moments should be remembered for years. He pointed out that the exchange between John Cena and Cody Rhodes is based on real emotion, and Cody is now applying what he once learned from Cena. While the goal is to make that match a classic, memorable moments could also come from other places on the card.

Finally, Peter asked how The Rock’s involvement changes things.

Paul said that having the world’s biggest star interested is a major positive. It brings in attention and adds unpredictability. He mentioned that even Linda McMahon was recently asked about a Cena heel turn, highlighting how much buzz The Rock’s presence generates. He called it a “wonderful problem to have.”

Backstage:

Cathy Kelley is with Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Liv says they had nothing to do with Bayley and Cathy says she isn’t blaming them.  She asks about their partner. Liv says they don’t care who Lyra picks.

Cathy Kelley Sat Down with Rhea Ripley

Cathy asked Rhea about the past year and how it’s shaped her.

Rhea said she’s doing things for herself now. No one supports her like she does. Her trust issues are worse than ever.

Cathy brought up her recent loss of Judgment Day and facing two former friends.

Rhea said people she thought were trustworthy proved otherwise. She believed she could trust Bianca and IYO but has learned that trust shouldn’t be given freely.

Cathy asked who she blames for the loss to IYO SKY.

Rhea said her emotions got in the way. She talked about wanting to face Bianca one-on-one, but after Bianca’s actions, Rhea admits her own choices weren’t perfect—but she still felt betrayed.

Cathy asked if never defeating IYO weighs on her heading into the match.

Rhea said it’s on her mind, but she uses that doubt as fuel. Anything can happen in the ring.

Cathy then asked about her personal growth.

Rhea said she’s thankful she chose to be herself. Being genuine is important. She respects how far Bianca and IYO have come, but to win, she has to go through them.

Finally, Cathy asked what winning the title by defeating two former friends would mean.

Rhea said it would mean everything to her, but everything comes at a price. If she becomes champion, she’ll be overjoyed.

Michael Cole Interviews Cody Rhodes

Cole began by asking Cody about last year’s WrestleMania.

Cody said the thrill of “finishing the story” quickly shifted into becoming the one everyone was chasing. He added that WWE is hotter than ever right now from a business perspective, and while it’s a team effort, he’s fortunate to be the one holding the title.

Cole brought up Cody turning down The Rock.

Cody explained that things moved so fast that he wasn’t present when it unfolded. He said whatever John Cena’s story is, he’ll get the chance to tell it at WrestleMania—but it won’t end in a win.

Cole asked Cody for his thoughts on Cena’s recent comments about toxic fans.

Cody said it’s not the fans’ job to lift up the talent. It’s their job to entertain the fans. He believes Cena has been feeling this way for a long time.

Cole then mentioned Cena’s quest to win his 17th world title.

Cody responded by saying he hopes that storyline doesn’t end with Cena walking away as champion.

Cole asked if Cody might eventually leave WWE for Hollywood.

Cody said the fame and rewards aren’t limited to Hollywood. He feels Cena has lost touch and isn’t aware of the current landscape. Cena’s job now is to be in Hollywood and, as Cody put it, “kiss James Gunn’s ass.”

Cody said he’s experienced both success and failure, and he owns all of it. He believes Cena owes the fans a real answer and possibly a real apology. If not, Cody may have to beat it out of him.

Cole questioned if Cody’s success was due to privilege and luck.

Cody admitted he’s been lucky to have people guide him, and that being born a Rhodes was a privilege. But he also said Cena is privileged—and now he’s facing the hardest-working man in the game.

Cody closed by saying he has to be the one who defeats Cena.

That’s basically all for the countdown show, it’s time for WWE WrestleMania 41 Sunday Live Results!

WWE WrestleMania 41 Sunday Live Results

Michael Cole welcomes us to the show as we see Superstars backstage. Rhea Ripley does push-ups and the crowd roars in the background. We shoot to a “last night” recap straight into the cold open for tonight.

We are live from the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, where Stephanie McMahon is in the ring and she spins around. She says the last time Wrestlemania was in Las Vegas it was Wrestlemania IX at Caesar’s Palace and she was 16. Today, we are back in Las Vegas and her middle daughter is 16. She says WWE has been a part of her life and she says you are part of family. She welcomes everyone home and welcomes everyone to Night Two of WrestleMania.

WWE Women’s World Championship – Triple Threat
IYO SKY (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley

We then hear the familiar sounds of IYO SKY’s theme, and out comes the reigning, defending WWE Women’s World Champion.

She settles in the ring with her big puffy ring walk jacket, and poses with her title. The fans like “The Genius of the Sky” in “Sin City.” Her music dies down and then the entrance tune for the first of her two challengers plays.

Out comes “The EST of WWE” Bianca Belair with kids who have her long ponytail just like her dancing around on stage as fans boo the living crap out of her, so loud that even Michael Cole quickly acknowledges it on the broadcast. Her step-daughter comes out looking like the real her, only for the real Belair to come out, kiss her and continue her bouncy walk down the long stage.

She settles in the ring after the longest entrance in history perhaps, Roman Reigns in his prime-level long, wearing a giant robe made out of roses. Girls were double-dutch jump-roping with her long ponytail on the stage for her ring walk as well. A giant Minute Maid mascot like the old PRIME mascot is shown.

Rhea Ripley’s theme hits and out she comes with a wild spikey helmet on to a super mega rock star level crowd reaction. This is her show according to the Vegas crowd. As loud as CM Punk’s pop for night one. Maybe he was right about her deserving to go on last over him (even if they’re on different nights).

Alicia Taylor, with essentially the exact same hair style as Xavier Woods last night, is shown on-camera for the big elaborate pre-match ring introductions for the champion and challengers. During this, it is again clear that the crowd is insanely pro-Ripley this evening. They’re pretty damn fond of SKY, too. The bell sounds and we’re officially off-and-running.

WWE Intercontinental Championship – Fatal Four-Way
Bron Breakker (c) vs. Penta vs. Dominik Mysterio vs. Finn Balor

In our third bout, for the second time tonight already, a title will be on-the-line, as the WWE Intercontinental Championship is at stake next. When the package wraps up, we return inside Allegiant Stadium, where Penta’s theme hits. The crowd loves him. He makes his way to the ring first for the four-way title tilt.

When the entrance wraps up, the theme for Dominik Mysterio hits and out he comes. He struggles to take off a Rey Mysterio mask he is wearing. The crowd roars for that. The commentators have a field day mocking it as well. They do a Dude Wipes live ad-read as “Dirty” Dom-Dom settles in the ring. Didn’t they just stop the Dirty name? I guess it depends on if it fits for a dumb joke.

Finn Balor comes out to a modified version of his old Demon theme. He is wearing a yellow hood of some kind. Cole taunts Barrett and asks for the story behind the mask/hood Balor wore. He’s also got bright ass yellow gloves on.

The reigning and defending WWE Intercontinental Champion makes his way out. He’s literally just wearing a blue and white singlet, with his I-C title strapped around his waist. He settles in the ring fresh off of his Steiner Math 2025 promo at the kickoff event earlier this week.

Singles Matches
AJ Styles vs. Logan Paul

Back live inside Allegiant Stadium, we see Logan Paul in the entrance area holding a selfie-stick. That’s the camera shot we see as his theme hits and he begins making his walk, panning the camera to show some of the crowd and making various comments. He connects the camera to a drone, which soars above him. He begins his walk as the camera shot turns into different boxed camera shots, ala Brady Bunch opening.

Near the ringside area, he reaches up and catches the drone and pulls the camera shot, which we are looking from, back down to his selfie-stick view as he enters the ring. Pretty crazy entrance actually. His music dies down and after a little delay, AJ Styles’ church sounding cords hits and the crowd erupts. “The Phenomenal One” heads out.

The bell sounds and we’re officially off-and-running with our next match of the evening.

The two lock up and Styles backs Paul into a corner. Paul spins him around and gives a break before talking a little trash and shoving him. Styles takes exception to that. They circle the ring, and Styles applies a side headlock. Paul punches out and locks on a side headlock. Styles whips him off, does a leapfrog, and drops down.

Paul holds onto the ropes and laughs at Styles. Paul drops Styles on the apron, but Styles shoulders him and slides through the legs. Styles goes into the ropes and hits a shoulder tackle before shouting, “Stay down, bitch!” Styles hits the ropes. Paul drops down and leapfrogs him, but Styles puts the brakes on and dropkicks him. Styles poses before getting on the apron and connects with a sliding knee to the skull. Styles grabs Paul, but the Maverick powers him into the barricade. Styles quickly reverses a whip into the barricade. An “AJ Styles” chant picks up. Styles gets him in the ring and goes for a shoulder thrust, but Paul avoids it.

Paul sends him into the ring post before grabbing the arm and driving him into the opposite ring post. Styles falls to the floor. Paul sizes Styles up and connects with a plancha. Paul celebrates at ringside. Styles crawls toward the commentary table to pull himself up. Paul slams his face off the table and then the apron. Paul rolls into the ring to break up the count. Paul grabs the WWE Drone that he placed on the Prime Energy Hydration Station and lets it fly. The WWE Drone captures Paul placing the apron over Styles’s face and attacking.

Paul snaps him off the top rope and heads to the top rope for the Paul from Grace (Lo Down Frog Splash) for a near fall. Paul sends Styles to the corner and whips him sternum-first into the opposite corner. Paul hits an Over Bomb (alley-oop), but Styles barely manages to grab the bottom rope. Paul does the Hulk Hogan cupping the ear gesture and hits Styles with a big boot. Paul hits a split-legged leg drop for a one-count. Paul starts hitting some jabs before Styles powers him to the corner and punches away at him. Paul boots him back and hits a moonsault block for a two-count. It looks like Styles was supposed to catch him, but they thought on their feet and redirected to save it.

Paul starts punching away at Styles and delivering uppercuts to ground him. Paul continues to do Hogan taunts to loud boos. Paul gets on the second turnbuckle and taunts the crowd. Paul tries to whip him hard into the corner, but Styles puts the brakes on. Paul kips up, thinking Styles hit the corner hard. Styles floors him with a pair of stiff clotheslines. Styles lights him up with a strike combination before connecting with an ushigoroshi.

Styles hits the ropes and connects with a sliding forearm to the forehead. Styles hits a leaping corner clothesline before hitting a brainbuster for a two-count. In the end, Paul’s mysterious friend Jeff tries passing the brass knuckles to him, only for Karrion Kross to appear at ringside to stop him. Kross tries to get Styles to use the knucks. Styles instead knocks out Kross. The distraction, however, allows Paul to hit his brutal Paul-verizer finisher on Styles for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Logan Paul
